REFLECTIVE JOURNAL 1: DEFORESTATION

Deforestation is one of the serious sustainable issues in Malaysia, not to mention especially in my hometown, Kelantan Darul Naim. This issue is not a new issue, it has been discussed since a long time ago. Deforestation has been done for urbanisation and also the logging activity. Besides legal deforestation, there were also some groups who were involved in the illegal deforestation. For me, it is so frustrating that there are still a group of people who do not realize how important it is to maintain sustainable development for the sake of all His creation on this planet.

This unsustainable deforestation continuously gives many negative effects to the planet especially in Kelantan itself. Humans and the flora and fauna are affected badly due to the deforestation. As we know, Kelantan was hit by the worst ever flood in 2014. It is the biggest flood in the history of Kelantan. The people in Kelantan were having difficulties as their houses were lost in the flood. Even the other facilities like schools and the hospitals were hit by the flood. Not to forget, there were also people who died due to this disaster. People lost their valuable things and had to spend a lot of money cleaning and buying new things after the flood. Many animals died as well. So, the disaster that happened in Kelantan proved that deforestation gave a really bad effect to the world.

As I am learning the subject Sustainable Development now, I am more aware of this sustainable issue. I realised that it is difficult to stop deforestation in a short time as it involves authority. However, what I think we as a marhaen people can do is to at least try our best to educate the community so that all of us can understand the consequences from this deforestation. Thus, we can live a better life on this planet that has been created by Allah for us to take care.
